Tides of Chaos is a canonical role-playing forum that allows enthusiastic members to not only partake in the events that will define the Realms, but to guide and direct them as they will though their character's actions. There are no caveats regarding membership; simply follow the steps detailed in the registration process and once that’s finished, it’s on to character creation. Although there are areas that allow members to interact with one another as their real selves, the bulk of activity is devoted to role-playing various quests, journeys, and the occasional skits within the fictional context of the Realms. As such, members who desire to participate are required to create a character that also exists within the Realms. Ideally, an author should be able to relate to his or her character, and as such, it is encouraged that you tailor as an extension of yourself. The ideal character is often a reflection of his or her creator. When creating a character, flaws and quirks may be the most important aspects of their personas. Just as few, if any of us at all, are truly perfect, there is no such thing as a ‘perfect character.' The world of the Realms is one of magic and wonder, where mortals do battle with the gods themselves; however, beyond that, it is still a predominantly mortal world. A character may be skilled, but he cannot be omnipotent; she can be talented, but she cannot be unbreakable. But this is, above all, not a world of one character seeking out his or her own destiny, but the story, the legend of many banding together, in pursuit of common goals as well as their own personal vendettas. It is a world whose foundation is built upon both the cooperation as well as the clash of its denizens, one whose continued prosperity is reliant upon its members interacting, bonding, and growing over the course of their adventures. |
